Aik Saath – Together as One

Aik Saath means ‘Together as One’ in Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu. The charity was founded by young people in Slough in 1998, following a period of gang-violence between those from the Hindu, Muslim and Sikh communities.

Aik Saath delivers countless initiatives in Slough with people from all communities, faiths and backgrounds to promote and encourage peace, human rights and community cohesion. Aik Saath empowers young volunteers aged 11-19 to deliver their work, working with up to 70 young people at any one time.

Aik Saath’s initiatives include:

  • Work in primary and secondary schools across Slough, and beyond, to train students as peer leaders and transform young people’s attitudes about diversity and cohesion
  • ‘Empoword’ – a monthly spoken word event providing a platform for budding young poets to showcase their talents and share their thoughts about issues that are important to them
  • Heritage projects that create opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to get to know each other better and develop new positive narratives around place and belonging
  • “Youth cafes” – pop-up weekly youth provisions, offering a diverse range of open access activities that help keep young people healthy, active and safe, and introduce them to new skills and opportunities
