Brabners is an independent and purpose-led law firm with offices across the North. Equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) is woven into its culture. Through a series of colleague-led action groups, Brabners is focused on making improvements around issues like LGBTQIA+, ethnic diversity, physical and mental health, social mobility and sustainability.

A certified B Corp, Brabners is committed to improving diversity and representation in the legal profession, building on staff members’ experiences and expertise from Belong.

Belong Network associates Mike Waite and Christine Cox met representatives from each action group to offer advice, training and resource on finding common ground and negotiating difficult conversations in a way that can build empathy and understanding.

Part of the workshop also looked at the concept of being an ally and the barriers to allyship such as lack of lived experience or choosing correct language or terminology – and how these could be removed to provide authentic support and empowerment.
