Join us on Wednesay 25 February, 10am – 12.30pm, for this virtual event exploring how sport can help build places where everyone feels they belong.

Across the UK, communities are facing increasing division, harmful rhetoric, and rising hate crime. We know that community‑level sport has a vital role to play in strengthening cohesion and building pride in place. This event brings together leaders, practitioners and partners to consider how we unlock that potential more fully.

During the session, we’ll explore:
• How sports programmes can positively influence community cohesion
• How to build effective place‑based partnerships with councils and local stakeholders
• How to capture and measure the impact of sport on belonging and pride in place
• The skills and capacity needed to help frontline practitioners navigate conflict and division

We’re pleased to confirm our keynote speakers:
Professor Ted Cantle – leading thinker on social cohesion
Jeanette Bain‑Burnett – Executive Director, Policy and Integrity, Sport England

Plus, Ian Leete, Local Government Association and Jane Ashworth, Leader, Stoke-on-Trent Council discussing the new LGA report on the role of sports, arts and culture in supporting social cohesion authored by the Belong Network, and case studies and discussion with: StreetGames; Yorkshire Sport; Achieve, Thrive, Flourish (Basildon); Youth Sport Trust; Active Partnerships and more.

This is a free, open‑invitation event for anyone interested in how sport can help create stronger, more connected and resilient communities. Whether you work in sport, local government, community development or simply care about building places where everyone belongs, you’re very welcome.
