Cohesive Societies Literature Review

This literature review maps out existing academic literature on social cohesion and sits in relation to a policy review, both of which feed directly into British Academy’s ongoing programme on Cohesive Societies.

The British Academy’s programme on Cohesive Societies is currently collecting existing work related to social cohesion to aid in research. Five themes (listed below) as well as other relevant writings associated with social cohesion are explored in this document. The British Academy’s five themes are: Cultural memory and tradition, Social Economy, Meaning and mechanisms of social responsibility, Identity and belonging and Care for the future.
