Media Toolkits: “Creating Messages and Stories” and “Influencing through the Media and Digital”

Two toolkits put together by IMIX – The Migration Communications Hub. These Toolkits are for people seeking to get messages across in the media and via digital related to immigration. These resources offer advice on how to tell stories of immigration to different groups, and the importance of using distinctive messaging.

IMiX was established to support organisations working in the immigration and refugee protection sector to grow their strategic communications capacity, with a focus on local and regional groups. In addition, we intend to influence the public debate on migration issues by producing communication outputs that cut through and have an impact.

The Toolkits include:

  • Top tips for press releases, including examples of effective releases
  • Tools for creating messages, including a “Messaging Grid” – which helps you to plan how to get your message across
  • Tips on putting across persuasive arguments, such as through highlighting ‘shared values’ and speaking in ‘positive terms’
  • Advice on creating a good story
  • Links to further resources.
